My birthday is on August 13th. This last year was the first one I got to spend with Jacob so I was VERY excited about that. I didn't expect to get anything big, specially when Jacob said I could have an ice cream birthday cake, right then I was convinced nothing could get better than that. Jacob is always very misterious when giving presents, what is totally not how my family deal with the present-giving scenerio. People in my family will either give the person some money to buy whatever it is he/she wants or have him/her go to the place and pick their own present ( AND there's no waiting for the actual day to give the present away). Considering these facts, you can imagine what the whole present-hiding thing does to me!
Anyways, when Jacob gets me something he'll strictly prohib me to look at our bank statements and I promisse I have never looked (I do like the surprise factor, even though it almost drives me insane!). My last birthday was the biggest trick of all (maybe the second if you count his proposal). So about a week prior to my birthday he says he ahs gotten my b.day present. The rules were: do not look at the bank statements and do not open any box that comes in the mail. The also said that it wouldn't be a big box and even though it was a place where they sell cds and dvds it wasnt either one of those items. That drove me nuts. I kept trying to guess but nothing would fit his discription of the darn thing!
After waiting everyday for the box (even though I was ALSO prohibed to shake the it), Jacob gave me the news that the box came while I took my afternoon nap one day. I hate when you wait for something for the longest time and as soon as you stop watching for a few second "BAM" it happens! So the next day he was upset because he was conviced I already knew what it was and that I had found the box.
At midnight on the 12th Jacob handed me a b.day card. It was one of those musical cards and as soon as I opened it, it played the song "Mmmbop" by Hanson. For those who don't know, I've been a Hanson fan for a little more than 10 years now. How were the odds for him to find THAT specific card on THAT specific ocasion? I was sooo happy. It seemed like I was turning 10 years old instead of 20...the card really got me as a surprise! Jacob then said that was my b.day present. I was very glad, even though I didn't understand much...what about the stupid box?
Just then I noticed a sheet of paper inside the card, I opened it and it was a receipt for something I couldn't find written. At the very end I found it: Concert -Hanson. Date: October 3, 2007. Place: Cain's Ballroom, Tulsa, Oklahoma. I forgot to breath. I didn't understand. Had he tricked me all this time? when would I ever expect for THAT? Even though it seemed likely after, I just didn't connect any possibily until then. A Hanson concert? In Tulsa freacking Oklahoma? 10 years had passed, most of them I tried to convice everybody I wasn't the teenybopper any longer...but looking at that sheet of paper and shocked by the surprise I allowed myself to cry a bit.
(shorting out here) Fate is always catching up with me. The concert date was approaching and it seemed like we weren't going to be able to make it to Tulsa for the concert. I pretended I wasn't bothered by it, but I barely managed to tell that to myself. The day of the concert I was absolutely disturbed and my sadness was more than obvious. Jacob had done his best and it wasn't his fault at all that we couldn't make it to Tulsa for the concert, still he felt bad. Later that day I checked out Hanson official website (www.hanson.net) and read the umbelieveble new: The concert had been cancelled. Due to a pulmonary embolism caused by blood clogs in his arm, Isaac Hanson had gone under a surgery and not being able to play in Tulsa. Perhaps I shouldn't have, but I started laughing. I would go to Tulsa to see Hanson after all!
The Concert was reescheduled for November 11th which I thought was crazy as the only Hanson concert I went to was on November 12th, 5 years previous (I dont remember that ocasion by the way...story for another post I guess!).
So off we went to Tulsa, Oklahoma, place where the Hanson band were from and that i always wanted to visit someday. So guess what: The place sucks! I didn't believe until II saw it with my bare eyes. worst than my hometown back in Brazil...and I didn't think that could be possible! Jacob tried to make a hotel reservation through the phone while we were there, but this lady with this strong southern accent replied back: "oh sirrr, therrre's noo need for A reserrvAtion!". How stupid of us, we couldn't find a person walking DOWNTOWN to give us informations, why would all the hotel be booked...nah nah...
We started looking for the place where the concert was going to be at, so we could get a hotel close by (the concert was on the next day). Suddenly Jacob starts to laugh saying: "I can;t believe it, you're not the only Hanson fan after all!" and there they were, long time Hanson fans camping in front of the avenue. I'll give you one chance to guess where I spent the night, your opition: comfy hotel room or in a cold sidewalk with a bunch of crazy girls. SO, here's the pictures I took from the whole staying in line deal...observe how "unique" Hanson fans are AND how you can get bored sitting in the same place for way too long.
We had a lot of fun and I was able to test my picture taking! Tomorrow I'll be posting about THE WALK. See ya then! Thanks for reading!
